      How do I apply to join NHS Professionals?
      NHS Professionals operates an online application process. Please visit the homepage
      of this website and use the profession selector and 'JOIN US' button to begin
      your online application.
    • Can I send a CV to NHS Professionals for an internal corporate vacancy?
      NHS Professionals cannot accept C.V.'s for internal corporate vacancies.
      Please visit the NHS Jobs website (www.jobs.nhs.uk) to view our corporate
      vacancies (which can also be seen here).
    • Why was I unsuccessful with my application?
      All applications are subject to basic criteria. Following screening, applicants must
      satisfactorily complete all pre-employment checks and attend training. Any
      application that does not satisfy all parts of the recruitment process
      is deemed unsuccessful.
    • Can I still register with NHS Professionals if I am substantively employed?
      Yes, many nurses undertake additional work opportunities through NHS Professionals
      when substantively employed.
    • Can I work for NHS Professionals if I am a limited company?
      Not currently, this maybe an option in the future.
    • Do I need Occupational Health Clearance if I already have it from an NHS Trust?
      Yes, however if you have up-to-date Occupational Health records you may not need further immunisation/vaccinations.
    • Can I have a paper application as my online application times out after 20 minutes?
      There is a save and return feature available for applicants, to allow unlimited
      time to complete the application form.
    • Can I check the status of my application online?
      If you have attended an interview, you can check the status of your application by
      clicking here.
      You will be required to enter your email address, date of birth and postcode in order to access
      your personal records.
      If you have not yet attended an interview then you will receive regular updates
      informingyou of your progress.
    • How do I join my local NHS Trust?
      Visit the NHS Professionals website homepage and begin the application process by
      selecting 'JOIN US' which appears at the top right-hand corner of each web
      page. You will be asked to input your postcode, once you have done this a list of
      Trusts that NHS Professionals support in your local area will be displayed.
    • I worked for NHSP a while ago and I was just wondering if I am still on your bank/register?
      If you have not worked for NHSP for 6 months or if you joined NHSP after 21st June
      2010 and have not worked for 6 months, your details will be archived. You will be
      required to re-apply to start working with NHS Professionals again.
    • What experience do I need to apply?
      Generally applicants are required to have at least 6 months experience within the
      last 2 years in the UK and at an NHS hospital.
    • Why has my application been rejected and when can I re-apply?
      Your application could have been rejected for various reasons, e.g. skills, lack of
      relevant experience etc. You are welcome to re-apply after 6 months.
    • How can an Applicant/Flexible Worker get documents verified?
      They can attend the NHSP office of their local Trust to have this done by the Trust
      Liaison Coordinator, or in some circumstances they may ask their Ward Manager.
    • Are there any age restrictions on joining NHS Professionals?
      We do not have an age restriction for joining NHS Professionals. As long as you meet the minimum requirements and have the Eligibility to Work in the UK (and an NI number) then you can join.
    • I am a newly qualified nurse, are there any opportunities available to me?
      NHS Professionals' experience requirements state that newly qualified nurses need
      to have completed their preceptorship or must be able to demonstrate at least 6
      months experience as a nurse in the relevant setting.
    • I’m a Substantive worker at a Trust, but my contract is coming to an end. Do I need to re-apply as a bank worker?
      Yes, you will. Please apply online as a Bank Only worker and tick the option that
      you are not currently employed by a Trust. This will ensure that you are
      processed as a bank worker.

      Where are you currently recruiting?
      NHS Professionals provides high quality flexible staff to over 80 NHS Trusts across
      England. We are therefore continuously increasing our bank of flexible workers.
      To view available shifts you will need access to NHSP Online which will only be granted
      once you have been recruited by NHSP. Please visit our website and use the 'JOIN
      US' section which appears on the top right-hand corner of every webpage.
      You will need to select your profession to retrieve the appropriate application form
      and details. One of the first sections of the application form will give you the opportunity
      to see which Trusts we serve locally to you.
    • Does NHS Professionals offer permanent vacancies?
      NHS Professionals specialises in providing flexible workers to meet the varying needs of
      Trusts and therefore does not offer any permanent positions. As part of the flexible
      worker needs of Trusts, there are opportunities for long-term placements. Many NHS
      Professionals flexible workers go on to gain substantive employment within Trusts
      on the basis of the knowledge and experience they have gained through NHS Professionals.
    • How do I find information on current vacancies?
      If you have been recruited by NHS Professionals, you can view available shifts using
      NHS Professionals Online. For a full list of available flexible and corporate opportunities,
      please visit NHS Jobs at www.jobs.nhs.uk.
    • How do I view shifts available for other trusts?
      When accessing NHS Professionals Online (the online booking service), you can click on the link that says 'Change Trust' and select from a list of the Trusts that you are registered to work for.
      If you wish to register for additional trust(s), please contact the National Service Centre to inform them on which additional Trust(s) you would like to view shifts and be contacted to work for. You will be asked for you userID and the Trust(s) that you currently work for to identify you.
    • Can you view multiple Trusts to find available shifts?
      No, you can only view one Trust at a time under 'View Requests'.
    • Where can I find information on current vacancies for corporate staff?
      All our corporate vacancies can be found here >> 
    • What shifts are available?
      The range of shifts available varies between Trusts and individual wards on a daily
      basis. To view available shifts you will need access to NHS Professionals Online which
      will only be granted once you have been recruited by NHSP. You can use NHSP Online to
      keep your availability regularly updated. This will increase your chances of getting the
      first choice of any available shifts.
    • How will I be informed of work?
      You will receive regular communication from our team informing you of any
      available shifts based on your individual requirements.
    • Which is the nearest Trust to me?
      Visit the NHS Professionals website home page and begin the application process by
      selecting 'JOIN US' which appears at the top right-hand corner of each web
      page. You will be asked to input your postcode, once you have done this a list of
      Trusts that NHS Professionals support in your local area will be displayed.
    • What if my nearest Trust is not coming up?
      NHS Professionals does not cover all NHS Trusts. If your nearest Trust is not showing,
      we do not recruit for them
    • Can I work at another Trust?
      If you are a flexible worker who has undergone the full recruitment process, you
      are able to work at any Trust, providing the work offered is the same assignment
      code as the code you currently hold. If you are a Substantive worker, please visit
      the NHS Professionals website home page and begin the application process by
      selecting 'JOIN US' which appears at the top right-hand corner of each web
      page. Once you have successfully completed the recruitment process to become
      a Bank Worker you will be able to select the Trust/s that you wish to be considered.
    • What is involved in a Long-Term Placement
      NHS Professionals can provide you with the chance to take on a Long-Term Placement
      with a consistent shift pattern for a set period of time in a specific ward or area with
      one of our client trusts.
      These placements can range from two weeks to nine months and will give you a unique
      opportunity to develop your skills in a specific area and the security of when and where
      you will be working for a fixed period of time.

    • What happens if I don’t want to work on a particular ward or hospital?
      You can use NHS Professionals Online to inform us of your preferences and to update those preferences. You tell us where and when you want to work. You are registered
      with NHS Professionals under a Registration Document and are therefore under no obligation to accept shifts that NHSP offer.

      How can I obtain an NHS Professionals uniform?
      As an NHS Professionals Flexible Worker you will be provided with two sets of NHS Professionals uniform. Upon successful completion of the recruitment process you will be sent a 'Welcome Pack' which contains a uniform order form. You must complete this form and either return it to the address stated at the bottom of the form or email it to Purchasing@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk It will take 5-7 working days for your uniform to be delivered.

      Requests for replacement uniforms should be sent via email to
      Purchasing@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk and must include details of your full name and return postal address.
      If you are a substantive member of NHS Professionals, you do not require an NHS Professionals uniform and instead are permitted to wear your Trust uniform when working bank shifts.
    • I have misplaced my NHS Professionals I.D. Badge, how can I obtain a replacement?
      Please post a passport compliant photograph of yourself accompanied by written
      verification of your identity supplied by your local NHSP Trust Liaison Coordinator, to:

    • I placed my uniform request several weeks and have not yet received the uniform.
      It will take between 5-7 working days for your uniform to be delivered.
      If you have not received your uniform and the 7 day lead time has passed,
      please email details of your enquiry to Purchasing@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk,
      please include details of your full name and postal address in your email.
    • They have sent me the wrong size uniform, what do I do?
      Please contact Simon Jersey (the uniform supplier) on 0344 499 6656. You will need to quote your staff ID number in order for Simon Jersey to exchange your uniform.

      The original certificate must be taken to the Trust based NHS Professionals representative who will take a copy of the document and sign and verify copy.

    • How do I provide details for my availability?
      You can use NHS Professionals Online to keep your availability regularly updated.
      This will increase your chances of getting the first choice of
      any available shifts.
    • How much time do I need to give if I need to cancel a shift?
      If you need to cancel a shift then please let us know as soon as possible. You can do this
      using NHS Professionals Online (the online booking system) or by contacting the National
      Service Centre.  Outside normal working hours you must contact the Trust where you
      are booked to work and also inform the relevant NHS Professionals team of your
      cancellation as soon as possible.
    • Who do I notify if I am unable to undertake assignments due to sickness?
      If you are unable to undertake assignments due to sickness you are required to advise the National Service Centre. The telephone number for the team you need to speak to will appear against the Trust name for which your assignment is due. See the 'Contact Us' page on NHS Professionals' website.
    • Who do I need to speak to regarding updating my visa?
      Please contact your local Trust Liasion Coordinator (TLC), who will arrange for your information to be updated.
    • I need to change my reference details on my application.
      Please contact the National Service Centre and provide them with the new reference details.
      Go to the 'Contact Us' page on NHSP's website.
    • Can I change one or both of my listed references?
      Yes. Please contact the National Service Centre and have your new reference details
      to hand, so the team can update the information for you.
       
    • Do I need to inform NHSP to update PIN?
      PIN numbers are automatically updated by NHSP.
    • I have changed address. How can I update my records?

      I would like to undertake my training however when I click on the launch button, nothing happens.
      In order for the modules to launch correctly, you will need to make sure you have the
      latest Flash Player 8, this can be found on the Adobe website.
    • How can I access online training?
      All bank only flexible workers are eligible to access the NHS Professionals Managed
      Learning Environment (MLE) which hosts the majority of the available online training
      courses.
      The Learning & Development
      web pages provide further access guidance and a link to the MLE.
    • Where are practical training sessions held?
      Training venues are spread nationwide to cover the geographical areas
      serviced by NHS Trusts in partnership with NHS Professionals.
    • Should I wait to be contacted regarding a training update?
      No, if you feel that you require a training refresher or you believe that your training
      date has lapsed you should contact the Service Centre at your earliest convenience
      and we will be happy to book you on the next available course.
    • How is mandatory training delivered?
      Generic Mandatory Training is provided in two ways; attendance on a half-day
      practical assessment session and through user completion of interactive online training
      modules (eLearning courses).
      Any other non-generic
      Mandatory Training will be run by our client NHS Trusts and places will be made
      available for NHS Professionals flexible workers to access these.
    • How can I access the additional CPD resources?

      ​You can access the Learn Blood Transfusion eLearning course by visiting the LearnPro website https://nhs.learnprouk.com

      You will be required to enter your 'Location' and 'Job Role'. For the purposes of registration, you will need to select 'NHS England' followed by 'NHS Professionals Ltd' as the location. For Job role, select 'Nursing and Midwifery' followed by one of options listed in the 'Bank Nursing' sub category. 

      The 'Learn Blood Transfusion' course provides evidence based information which is broken down into different modules and is suitable for both Registered Nurses and Care Support Workers.

      You can access the National Patient Safety Suite by visiting the website https://nationalpatientsafetysuite.virtual-college.co.uk

      To register, follow these steps:

      1. Click on the option 'ENGLAND - click here to register'
      2. Select the option to ‘Register’
      3. Click the check box to confirm you have read and agree with the learner statement
      4. Click ‘Register’
      5. Select the organisation ‘non – NHS England’ from the drop down list
      6. Select the department ‘NHS Professionals – England’ from the drop down list
      7. Click ‘Register’
      8. Click the check boxes adjacent to the courses you wish to study
      9. Click ‘Register’
      10. Complete the New User Registration Form including the organisation code 445323 and click ‘Register’

      How long am I able to go on maternity leave?

      ​You are entitled to 52 weeks unpaid maternity leave on the provision that medical evidence has been received by NHS Professionals.

    • Why have I been deactivated and/ or received my p45 whilst on maternity leave?

      ​​Unfortunately as per the NHS Professionals registration document, if a flexible worker has not worked an assignment within a 6 month period their account will automatically be deactivated. If, however you have informed NHS Professionals of your maternity leave and have provided the relevant documentation, we will be able to reactivate your account on your return to work. This is providing you return after 52 weeks and notify NHS Professionals 28 days prior of your intent to return to work following your maternity leave.

    • Why don't I qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay

      ​This could be due to any of the following reasons:

      •    You were not registered for long enough
      •    Your average weekly earnings were not high enough
      •    You did not provide enough notice of your maternity leave
      •    You did not provide the MAT B1 within the required time frame
      •    You did not inform NHSP that your baby had been born within 28 days of the date of birth

      If you do not qualify, a SMP1 form will be issued to you that you can take along with your Mat B1 to your local benefits office to potentially claim maternity allowance.

    • Am I entitled to paternity pay?

      If you are unable to undertake assignments due to paternity leave, in-line

      with your Contract of Engagement you may be entitled to
      Statutory Paternity Pay
      (SPP) based on the hours worked and your average earnings over the last
      eight weeks according to SPP regulations as amended from time to time. The
       Payroll department will need to see a copy of the Form MatB1, which shows the
      expected date of confinement.

    • Am I entitled to maternity pay?

      ​If you are unable to undertake assignments due to maternity leave, in-line with your Contract of Engagement you may be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) based on the hours worked and your average earnings according to SMP regulations as amended from time to time.

      To qualify for SMP you must have worked for NHS Professionals continuously for at least 26 weeks up to the qualifying week (15th week) before the expected week of childbirth. You should earn on average of at least £109 a week, provide sufficient notice (28 days before you want to start maternity leave) and medical evidence of your pregnancy in the form of your MAT B1. You MAT B1 is issued to you by your Midwife/GP approximately 20 weeks before your baby is due. In addition to this we request you to provide the completed Maternity Notification form.

    • What documents do I require to apply for maternity leave?

      In order to be considered for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), please provide your original Maternity certificate (MAT B1) that would be issued to you by your Midwife/GP at approximately 20 weeks before your baby is due.
      In addition to this we request you to provide the completed Maternity Notification form.

    • Am I entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)?

      To qualify for SMP you must have worked for NHS Professionals continuously for at least 26 weeks up to the qualifying week (15th week) before the expected week of childbirth.     • Do I need to complete a risk assessment form?

      ​For health and safety reasons during and after your pregnancy we request for you to complete the risk assessment form with your Ward Manager/Supervisor on duty.

      ​You are entitled to 52 weeks unpaid maternity leave on the provision that medical evidence has been received by NHS Professionals.

       

    • How can I receive a SMP1 form to claim Maternity Allowance?

      On submission of your original documentation as outlined in the previous question "What documents do I require?", NHS Professionals will assess whether you qualify for SMP payments, if you do not qualify a SMP1 form will be issued to you that you my take along with your Mat B1 to your local benefits office to potentially claim maternity allowance.

      Flexible workers wishing to obtain their P45 can resign by putting in writing and posting it to:

      Alternatively, you can phone NHS Professionals to resign.
      The P45 will then be issued shortly after the resignation has been received. For phone resignations, a P45 will only be issued if the security questions to verify your identity have been answered correctly.

    • How do I obtain a login for NHSP:Online (Staffbank) for agencies?
      Please contact NHS Professionals via the e-mail address
       webadmin@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk stating your requirements, name,
      contact details and the agency you work for.
    • How do I join NHSP:Online (the online booking system)?
      You must first complete NHS Professionals application and
      recruitment process. If you are successfully recruited, you will be
      given access to NHSP:Online. Provided you have already been
      successfully recruited by NHSP, you can request a username and password
      by emailing details of your request and your identification to web.support@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk.
    • When I try to book a shift online, I get the message “Your WTD is greater than 48 hours". What does this mean?
      This is because on average over the last 17 weeks you have worked more
      than 48 hours per week.  If you wish to opt-out of the Working Time
      Directive, thus enabling you to work more than 48 hours a week on a regular
      basis, you will need to sign a Working Time Directive Waiver and return it to
      NHSP's Data Maintenance Team.

    • How can I book a shift if I am not registered on NHSP's booking system?
      If you have not worked a shift through NHS Professionals within a
      6 month period, your details will be deactivated on our shift booking system.
      You will need to re-apply to undertake any further shifts though NHS
      Professionals. Please visit our website homepage and use the 'JOIN US NOW…'
      section which also appears on the top right-hand corner of every webpage.
      You will need to select your profession to bring up the appropriate application
      form and details.
    • I'm not able to log into NHSP:Online (a.k.a. StaffBank) system, what do I do?
    • I am a Substantive applicant and I am unable to download the documents on the email that I have received.
      The documents can be printed via the hyperlink in your email however if
      you are experiencing difficulties then please let us know and we can send
      you these documents as attachments to your email address. Please contact
    • How can I reset my online password?
      There are two ways to reset your password online: Follow the 'Forgot
      your password?'  link on the login page and follow the instructions.
      Alternatively, you can change your password once you are logged into NHSP:Online (the booking system).
    • Where can I find my reference number?
      You can obtain this information via NHSP:Online (the booking
      system). You will need your Web login to do so. If you have not yet been
      setup with login details, please contact the National Service Centre for further
      assistance. Please see the 'Contact Us' page for all available contact details.
    • The shift that I previously worked is not on the system, what do I need to do?
      Please contact the Ward/Dept. Manager of Trust Liason Coordinator for
      the area that you worked for help with this enquiry.
    • I have had a block placed on me and I am unable to book shifts online. What can I do?
      Please contact the National Service Centre team that is designated to
      the Trust that you have worked for. Please see the 'Contact Us' page for all
      available contact details.

      What pay rates do NHS Professionals Flexible Workers receive?
      NHS Professionals pays at Agenda for Change pay structures for the
      assignment undertaken, based on the assignment codes.
      Agenda for Change rules relating to unsocial hours and High Area Cost
      Supplements are applied to these rates.
      Local Recruitment and
      Retention Premiums (RRPs) are applied, at the discretion of Trusts. Any
      RRP applied will amend the spot rate, and will be taken from the national
      Agenda for Change pay bands.
      In additional to national
      spot rates, NHS Professionals also pays some Flexible Workers personalised
      rates of pay. These are based on local Trust rates of pay, and are applicable
      only to Flexible Workers who were on a local personalised contract,
      and therefore had a choice about whether or not to accept NHS Professionals'
      Agenda for Change spot rates. It is expected that the payment of
      personalised rates of pay will be phased out.
    • What are personalised rates of pay?
      There is a small group of Flexible Workers who are paid personalised rates
      of pay for assignments undertaken, rather than the national minimum spot
      rates. This is because they have a local personalised contract and therefore
      have the choice about whether they wish to accept NHS Professionals minimum
      spot rates.
    • What are unsocial hours payments?
      Shifts booked on NHS Professionals’ staff bank are calculated in line with the Agenda for Change (AfC) rules. The way that AfC rules are interpreted by staff bank is as follows:
       
      The day hours are calculated from 6am until 8pm, Monday to Friday.
      Night hours are calculated from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday.
       
      Unsocial is paid as below:
       
      Nights & Saturdays          ​ ​  Sundays & Bank Holidays
      Band 1​ ​50% ​100%
      Band 2 ​44% ​88%
      Band 3 ​37% ​74%
      Band 4-9 ​30% ​60%
       
      Weekdays:

      Shifts worked between 6am – 8pm, Monday to Friday are paid the day rate.
      For night shifts during the week, if more than 50% of the shift is worked during night hours, the whole shift will be paid the night rate. i.e: 9pm start and 8am finish.
      Shifts worked from 8pm – Midnight on Friday are paid the night rate.
       
      Weekends:

      Shifts worked from Midnight on Friday until Midnight on Saturday are paid the Saturday rate.
      Shifts worked from Midnight on Saturday until Midnight on Sunday are paid the Sunday rate.
      Shifts worked from Midnight on Sunday until 6am on Monday are paid the night rate.
       
      Bank Holidays:

      Bank holidays are paid at the same rate as Sunday. So the Sunday rate would apply from Midnight on Saturday until Midnight on Bank Holiday Monday. From then on, the rate would revert back to the night rate.
    • When will I be paid?
      If your timesheet is correctly completed and received by midnight/00:00 hours on Wednesday, payment will be credited to your bank account on Friday of the following week.
    • Where do I send my timesheet?
      All timesheets must be submitted via NHSP:Online.
    • How will I know if my timesheet is going to be paid?
      The use of eTimesheets means that you can view the status of your timesheet
      online. The status will reflect any stage of the timesheet progress, including when
      it has been paid. If you have released your timesheet by midnight/00:00 hours on
      Wednesday then your timesheet will be paid by the following Friday.
    • How will I know if I have been paid?
      Your timesheet will be visible on NHSP:Online (The online booking system) and
      will show as 'Paid'.  Each Friday, you will also be able to access your payslips
      via NHSP:Online. Click here for a two page guide on how to use the e-Payslip
      feature.
    • How do I receive holiday pay?
      The Working Time Regulations 1998 require that flexible workers should book holiday
      and be paid for this once they have taken it.
      NHS Professionals operate a claim-based system which will allow you to book holiday and be paid for it. The new system will pay flexible workers to take time away from the workplace and so will ensure, as far as NHS Professionals is able to do so, that the flexible worker takes proper rest periods as holiday.
    • I have not received a payslip and my bank has not yet been credited.
      Please telephone the National Service Centre on 03332 407 552.
      If your timesheet was received after the deadline then payment will be made the following week and your e-Payslip will become visable on the friday, when you receive payment.
    • Am I entitled to maternity pay?

      If you are unable to undertake assignments due to maternity leave, in-line with your Contract of Engagement you may be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) based on the hours worked and your average earnings according to SMP regulations as amended from time to time.

      To qualify for SMP you must have worked for NHS Professionals continuously for at least 26 weeks up to the qualifying week (15th week) before the expected week of childbirth. You should earn on average of at least £109 a week, provide sufficient notice (28 days before you want to start maternity leave) and medical evidence of your pregnancy in the form of your MAT B1. You MAT B1 is issued to you by your Midwife/GP approximately 20 weeks before your baby is due. In addition to this we request you to provide the completed Maternity Notification form.

    • I have been paid an incorrect rate of pay.
      Please telephone the National Service Centre on 03332 407 552.
      The rate of pay is determined at the point of booking. If this is incorrect, you will need to ask the Trust manager who booked the shift to contact the NHS Professionals Payroll department to authorise the change.
    • What happens around Bank Holidays?
      Normally deadlines and/or pay days are changed to take account of holidays.
      Any revised details will be emailed to you at least one week prior to any changes
      to deadlines and/or pay days. Your NHS Professionals' on site coordinator will also
      be able to answer queries you have pertaining to any such changes.
    • Am I entitled to paternity pay?
      If you are unable to undertake assignments due to paternity leave, in-line
      with your Contract of Engagement you may be entitled to
      Statutory Paternity Pay
      (SPP) based on the hours worked and your average earnings over the last
      eight weeks according to SPP regulations as amended from time to time. The
       Payroll department will need to see a copy of the Form MatB1, which shows the
      expected date of confinement.
    • Who do I notify if I am going on maternity leave?
      You will need to notify Flexible Worker Human Resources in writing by emailing them at: fwhumanresources@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk in regards to your maternity and maternity entitlements.
    • Can I still use paper timesheets?
      No, paper timesheets are no longer accepted. Please make use of the
      eTimesheets by logging in to your flexible worker profile online.
    • My shift has not yet been authorised by the ward and I am waiting for them to release it, what can I do?
      Please contact the ward for further assistance. If they are unable to assist you,
      please contact the National Service Centre on 03332 407 552.
    • My Ward Manager is on annual leave. Can you help in authorising my timesheet?

    • What tips can you provide for submitting timesheets?
      We recommend that you arrange for the Trust authoriser to authorise your hours
      immediately after each shift has been worked.
    • What if the hours recorded are incorrect?

      The call handler will check your timesheet against your payslip. Should this result in an underpayment you will receive an adjustment in the following week.

      P60's are issued annually, between 6-8 weeks after the end of the financial year (31st March).
    • Do you pay travel expenses?
      During the course of some assignments you may be required to travel as part
      of your duties. Where your line manager has agreed you can claim expenses
      in line with Agenda for Change, you will need to get your completed expense
      claim form (click here) signed by the appropriate manager in the Trust.
      Completed, signed forms should be sent to the address on the claim
      form. Expenses will be paid a fortnight in arrears.
    • How do I use e-Payslip feature on NHSP:Online to view my payslip information?
      You will need to be actively registered with NHS Professionals in order
      to have an active NHSP:Online user account. Once logged on to NHSP:Online,

    • Why have I been deactivated and/ or received my p45 whilst on maternity leave?

      ​Unfortunately as per the NHS Professionals registration document, if a flexible worker has not worked an assignment within a 6 month period their account will automatically be deactivated. If, however you have informed NHS Professionals of your maternity leave and have provided the relevant documentation, we will be able to reactivate your account on your return to work. This is providing you return after 52 weeks and notify NHS Professionals 28 days prior of your intent to return to work following your maternity leave.

      How long will it take to process my application?
      This will depend on obtaining full and correct information from you. We aim to turn around applications within 25 working days from obtaining a fully completed application pack.
      Once you have submitted your application online, it is subject to screening. If your application is successful
      you will be invited for an interview. Following a successful interview NHS Professionals will complete several pre-employment checks including a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service check, previously Criminal Records Bureau), Occupational Health Clearance and professional reference checks. If these checks are satisfactorily completed, you will then attend a training day before undertaking work opportunities.       If you are applying to work as a Bank Only Flexible Worker, you will require an

      Your application will be in the screening process. If your application has been
      successfully screened, you will be invited for an interview. If you have
      not heard from NHS Professionals within 4 weeks of submitting your
      application, your application has been unsuccessful.

    • How long does the DBS take to process and can I check my status online?
       
      DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, previously Criminal Record Bureau) checks can take several weeks to be cleared. To check your DBS status online you will need your DBS form reference number  (F00…) and date of birth. To obtain the reference number you can either call NHS Professionals on your normal contact number or call the Disclosure and Barring Service direct on 0870 909 0844, stating the personal details required. To track online follow the link: https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/enquiry then type in your F00 ref number and date of birth and click search. This will show your DBS status.
    • Who do I contact if I am unable to attend my interview and can I change my interview dates?
      Due to interview date availability you will only have one opportunity to change the date.

    • I have applied and verified my email address, what happens next?
      If you have been successfully shortlisted, you will receive confirmation. If you have
      not receive any confirmation within 28 days, your application has
      been unsuccessful.
    • How long will my application take?
      Substantive Online: Once we get the documents back from your meeting with your line manager, they are processed within 48 hours.
      Bank Applications are processed within 8-12 weeks on average and this is mostly due to the requirement for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, previously Criminal Records Bureau) clearance.
    • My application is complete, why have I not received my Welcome Pack yet?
      You should receive your welcome pack within 10 days of completing the
      application process.
    • What type of references are acceptable?
      We only accept professional references from your most recent and current
      employer and they must be from a Supervisor or Manager. If you are currently
      studying, we will accept one reference from your Tutor.
    • If I have a Visa, can I work for NHS Professionals?

      Interviews are held in various locations throughout the UK, predominantly within

    • How long before I receive feedback following my Occupational Health check?

      It takes an average of 5 working days for new applicants to receive feedback

      following receipt of Occupational Health check information.

      The feedback will inform you of next steps specific to you.

    • Why should I provide referees and who should these be?

      You need to provide referees so that we can confirm the periods and types of employment that you have told us about on your application form, which is a requirement of the NHS Employers Employment Check Standards.Your referees should be your line manager and an HR contact for each relevant period of employment, covering a minimum of three years.


    • What happens at an Interview and Assessment Centre (IAC)?
      You will have an interview/document check with a Nurse then, you will sit an
      interview, depending on the role you are applying for and
      your previous experience. Some of our assessment centres also have
      Occupational Health Nurses present on the day.
    • How long does the Interview and Assessment Centre process take?
      You will need to allow up to three hours for the Interview and Assessment Centre day.
    • Is confirmation of the interview details emailed?
      Yes, you will receive the interview details via email to the email address you
      have provided us with.
    • I applied several weeks ago but my details are not on your system, what can I do?
      If you have not been contacted by NHSP within 28 days of submitting your application, unfortunately, your application has been unsuccessful.

      What is a TLC?
      A TLC is an NHS Professionals Trust Liaison Coordinator providing on-site support to the NHS Trusts that NHSP serves.
    • Who is my Trust Liason Coordinator (TLC)?

      Trust where you work to obtain contact details for the appropriate TLC.
    • What is the difference between Multi-Post Holder and a Bank Only worker?
      A Substantive flexible worker (Multi-Post Holder) holds a contracted post with
      one of our partner NHS Trusts and works extra shifts with NHS Professionals
      within that Trust only.
      A Bank Only flexible
      worker does not hold a contracted post and only works shifts with NHS Professionals.

      Can I choose when I work?
      Yes, we will always contact you to discuss suitable shifts and you are under no
      obligation to accept.
    • What do I need to take with me to a shift?
      When you arrive for your first shift, you should report to the ward or unit manager
      who will ensure that you are familiar with the ward/unit and any information
      you may need to know.
      If appropriate you must wear your NHS Professionals uniform to all shifts, ensuring
      that you also adhere to the local Trust’s uniform policy. At all times you must
      display your NHS Professionals identity badge.
    • What is my employment status?
      Under the Contract of Engagement, you are employed for the duration of an
      assignment or series of assignments offered to you by NHS Professionals
      and accepted by you.
      An ‘assignment’ means the individual shift or series of shifts during which
      you are engaged by NHS Professionals on behalf of a Trust to undertake
      work. Each assignment is a self-contained offer of work, and once the
      assignment ends you are not obliged to undertake any further assignments,
      nor is NHS Professionals obliged to offer you any. On completion of any
      assignment you are no longer an employee of NHS Professionals.
    • What are my hours of work with NHS Professionals?
      As a Flexible Worker, you have no normal working hours. Under your Contract
      of Engagement you are registered to undertake short-term shifts for NHS
      Trusts or other NHS employers, as and when necessary; there is no obligation
      from you to undertake assignments, nor is NHS Professionals obliged
      to offer assignments to you.
      It is NHS Professionals'
      duty to monitor your working hours including hours that you work for an employer
      other than NHS Professionals and in any other employment that you
      may hold with any Trust. It is therefore essential that you inform NHS
      Professionals of any other work that you carry-out, or any subsequent change.
      If you consider that you do, or may, work more 48 hours per week in whatever
      employment or engagements for any employer you have spread over any 17
      week period, you are required to notify NHS Professionals of this fact immediately.
      You will then be asked to consider entering into a binding agreement (opt-out)
      consenting to hours in excess of 48 per week in accordance with the
      Working Time Regulations 1998.
      You have an individual
      responsibility for the number of hours worked and for ensuring that you do
      not work additional hours which would prevent you from delivering a safe level
      of patient care. NHS Professionals has the right to stop you working excessive
      hours if it is felt that this will prevent you from doing so.
      Am I entitled to
      compassionate leave?
    • Am I entitled to compassionate leave?
      No, as a Flexible Worker you are not entitled to compassionate leave.
      You are registered with NHS Professionals under a Contract of Engagement
      and there is no obligation for you to accept shifts. You tell us where and when
      you want to work.
    • What type of contract do I have with NHS Professionals?
      Under the Contract of Engagement, you are employed for the duration of an
      assignment or series of assignments offered to you by NHS Professionals
      and accepted by you. An ‘assignment’ means the individual shift or
      series of shifts during which you are engaged by NHS Professionals on
      behalf of a Trust to undertake work. Each assignment is a self-contained offer
      of work, and once the
      assignment ends you are not obliged to undertake any further assignments,
      nor is NHS Professionals obliged to offer you any. On completion of any
      assignment you are no longer an employee of NHS Professionals.
    • What are assignment codes?
      Assignment codes are used to describe the type of assignment undertaken by a
      Flexible Worker. They consist of the ‘assignment type’ and the ‘area of work’.
      ‘Assignment types’ are based on the national role profiles that emerged from
      the implementation of Agenda for Change in NHS Trusts.
      ‘Areas of work’ specify
      the area of work or speciality. In addition to codes for areas of speciality there
      are also three general codes which are used if the manager booking the
      assignment does not require someone with particular expertise or experience
      in an acute, community or mental health setting.
      The ‘assignment type’
      and ‘area of work’ are combined to produce a very simple code.
      For example, when a manager wants a registered nurse but does not require them
      to have experience or expertise in any particular area they will ask for the following:
          Acute: Registered Nurse (RN), General (00) = RN00
          Community: Registered Nurse (RN), General (102) = RN102
          Mental Health: Registered Nurse (RN), General (03) = RN03
      If there is a need for particular skills or experience the appropriate area of work
      code is used:
          Acute: Registered Nurse (RN), with A&E experience (04) = RN04
          Community: Registered Nurse (RN), in the child health service (100) = RN100
          Mental Health: Registered Nurse (RN), with forensic experience (76) = RN76
    • How many hours a week can I work if I have a substantive post with an NHS Trust or other NHS employer?
      Unless you have signed a Working Time Directive opt-out form:
       
      If you hold a full-time substantive post with a Trust or other NHS Employer,
      you may only work an additional 10 hours per week, averaged over a 17
      week reference period. Where you work in a ward/department
      for equal to or more than 12 hour shifts, only one additional shift may
      be worked per week, and this will be limited to 10 hours in length.

      If you hold a part-time post with a Trust or other NHS Employer, you may only
      work a maximum of 48 hours per week, averaged over a 17 week period,
      including normal working hours under such part-time employment.
      You have an individual responsibility for the number of hours worked and for
      ensuring that you do not work additional hours which would prevent you
      from delivering a safe level of patient care. NHS Professionals has
      the right to stop you working excessive hours if it is felt that this will prevent
      you from doing so.
    • How late can I cancel my shift?
      Shifts can be cancelled online up to 24 hours before the shift is due to start.
      If you need to cancel within the 24 hours leading up to your shift start time,
      please call the National Service Centre to cancel your shift.
    • How often do I need to undertake shifts to remain registered with NHS Professionals?
      If you have not worked for NHSP for 6 months or if you joined NHSP after
      21 June 2010 and
      have not worked for 6 months, your details will be archived. You will be
      required to re-apply to start working with NHS Professionals again.
    • In what circumstances would a flexible worker be suspended?
      A Flexible Worker would only be suspended pending an investigation into
      allegations if the full disciplinary procedure is being applied, and will only
      take place in the following circumstances:
      The individual’s presence at work could present a real danger to patients or
      colleagues and there is no other practical way of removing the risk.
      The individual’s continued presence at work might hamper the investigation
      (e.g. to protect the Flexible Worker’s or other’s interests where there are
      issues of intimidation or influencing of them or witnesses).
      The allegations potentially constitute gross misconduct, and could therefore
      potentially lead to the termination of their assignment and Contract of Engagement.
      Suspension is not used lightly, and alternatives to suspension are
      considered in all cases, including placing restrictions on the individual’s practice,
      such as stopping them from administering drugs, stopping them from performing
      certain clinical procedures, stopping them from working with certain groups of
      patients or in particular areas.
    • I have been asked to move ward, do I have to do this?
      Yes, in most circumstances. Please refer to your Code of Conduct.
